- Abstract
Objective: to examine the possibilities for implementing ISO 45003:2021 guidelines for managing psychosocial risk and promoting well-being at work into an occupational health and safety (OH&S) management system (compliant with the requirements of ISO 45001:2018). Research Design & Methods: Analysis of the standards and literature on safety and psychosocial health. ISO 45001:2018 and ISO 45003:2021 were the main subjects of the research. Findings: The main ISO 45003:2021 guidelines, which can be used by organisations as part of their OH&S management systems, were analysed. A lack of competent people to identify threats and assess risks to psychosocial well-being, as well as employees' fear of speaking out about psychosocial issues, may cause the greatest difficulties for organisations attempting to apply the ISO 45003:2021 guidelines. The article indicates psychosocial risks and provides examples of actions that can be taken to manage psychosocial risk and improve employee well-being. Implications / Recommendations: According to ISO 45001:2018 and ISO 45003:2021 standards, psychosocial risks should be considered and addressed in order to maintain an OH&S management system. Organisations can also apply the model of adjustment described in this paper to an existing OH&S management system with regard to the ISO 45003:2021 guidelines. It is recommended that organisations have a psychologist on the team responsible for implementing the ISO 45003:2021 guidelines and thereafter regularly consult the psychologist. Lastly, training programmes for all employees and internal auditors should include psychosocial aspects. Contribution: Methods of implementing the guidelines for psychosocial risks into the OH&S management system were characterised and a model for adjusting an existing system to ISO 45003:2021 guidelines was developed. Article type: original article.
