- Abstract
Industrial revitalization is the primary task of rural revitalization, but the vitality of rural industries remains unsatisfactory despite the support of various capital sources and the intensive investment of policy resources. Based on the characteristics of small scale, single industry, and acquaintance of rural industries, individual actors enjoy an important role in industrial construction. Therefore, studying the relationship between the behavior of actors in the agricultural tourism industry and industrial revitalization is conducive to further improving the rural industry action plan, and has significance in lowering input costs and ensuring the effectiveness of investment in rural industries. In this study, 21 villages in H Town of A City in the Pearl River Delta were selected as ecological village samples. The "people-industry" interaction was studied at the village scale, and how various actors influence the success or failure of rural industries was interpreted. Moreover, the theory of actor network and social network was introduced in an innovative manner. After improvement of the framework, this theory was applied to discuss the relationship between rural industrial revitalization and actors, thus enabling the construction of knowledge regarding features of rural industrial actors. The research methods were as follows. Firstly, an actor analysis map was plotted by analyzing the actor network to disclose the relationship between human actors and nonhuman actors. Secondly, a radar analysis of nonhuman actors was carried out through analytic hierarchy process(AHP), and results were divided into balanced types, pole-prominent types, and shrinking types. Thirdly, the "human actor-nonhuman actor" matrix and "human actor-human actor" matrix were constructed from the perspective of social network by using nonhuman actors as the anchor points, thus forming an actor network within rural industries. The richness of the actor network, sparseness of local connections, and stability and integrity of the overall network structure were measured with UCINET software. Moreover, the structural characteristics of the actor network model were analyzed. Through radar analysis, intermediary centrality, K-core, and Lamdba set measurement indicators, the 21 rural industrial actors in H Town were finally classified into six types of structures, including active and stable network structure, active and unstable network structure, inactive and stable structure, semi-active and unstable structure, actor missing structure, and industrial undeveloped structure. Moreover, the spatial correlation of the six structures was analyzed graphically. Finally, a qualitative analysis of the six network structures was conducted. Actions and strategies of different industrial actors were proposed based on field research. Some conclusions could be drawn. First, there exists a high degree of correlation between the investment behaviors of human actors and the space, showing spatial aggregation. Second, rural actors form a multi-linear and complex network structure. Successful industrial networks are characterized by tight structure as well as strong and stable overall correlations. Finally, the support strength of actors and the coordination ability of individual investors(groups) largely influence industrial success or failure. This study contributes to the literature via its innovations in technical approach, research perspective, and sample analysis.(1) Technically, the theory of ANT is combined with SNA technology and applied to study rural industrial actors.(2) The "people-industry" interaction is investigated on the village scale and social subjects with different interests were discussed from the network perspective.(3) In view of data analysis, a horizontal comparison of 21 samples was carried out. The subjective scoring analysis of nonhuman actors and objective descriptive analysis of human actors were carried out from dual perspectives (subjective and objective, qualitative and quantitative). Moreover, characteristics of actors were described by index quantization and actor individuals were analyzed through a qualitative study.
