- Abstract
This study would like to analyze Turkish-Bulgarian bilateral relationships considering common historical and cultural background as an important factor for developing mutually beneficial tourism policies between the two countries. In order to get maximum potential output as a result of possible common tourism strategies in the context of sustainable tourism facilities between Turkey and Bulgaria, it is going to examine what should be done and what kind of specific objectives and measures are necessary for achieving this purpose. Some EU pre-accession instruments like "IPA-Crossborder" projects which support improving the capacity for nature protection, sustainable use and management of common natural resources through cooperation initiatives between Turkish and Bulgarian authorities first of all in the cross-border area, then including the whole territory of these countries have been put forward. Drawing potential benefits from common historical background and sharing cultural elements of these neighbouring states can push the business facilities and investments for the regional tourism infrastructure and might possibly provide the Balkan states with the awareness for a common tourism market as a whole region. As a result, two states can increase their potential benefits from tourism sector and maximize the potential economic acqusitions via common tourism policies.
