- Abstract
The article presents two cases of coralline lethal orange disease (CLOD) at Maro Reef in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands (NWHI). The disease is caused by a bacterium that affects reef-building coralline algae. Its discovery serves as the highest latitude record of the CLOD and represents a range extension for this disease. The emergence of this disease in the NWHI poses questions on how it is being transported across the Indo-Pacific. The author stresses the need to gain a better understanding of disease dynamics within the oceans.
