- Abstract
The present study is all about the spiritual doctrine of St. Louis-Marie Grignion de Montfort. This French itinerant missionary proposes a pedagogy of holiness that seems of great use to the process of sanctification of men and women; therefore, we deem it a doctrine worth examining. The present work is composed of four principal parts. The first chapter focuses on the person of Montfort and his works. We contemplate Montfort here as a tom promised Christian who lays down all his mind and heart at the service of man in totality and of all mankind for his salvation's sake and for God's glory. In his teachings, Louis-Marie Grignion de Montfort insists on the importance of Jesus for the salvation of mankind. The second chapter focuses on the Monfortian understanding of holiness. For Montfort, holiness is no other than communion with Jesus. In his spiritual doctrine, he proposes four means in order to reach that communion with the Lord. On the third chapter, therefore, we have exposed the first three means of sanctification, namely: the ardent desire of God, prayer, and mortification. We have studied the fourth means on the fourth chapter, that is: the devotion to Mary. Montfort considers it the most important of the four. He preached about it in order that the children of God may know that they are children of Mary and that they may give themselves without reserve to her. In that way, communion with God is guaranteed.
