- Abstract
The provocative vibration between fact and fiction, which is characteristic of biographicalism as a literary process that transforms historical facts into aesthetic creations in a specific way and renews and enriches the memory of a particular personality, has also found an echo in the contemporary Macedonian novel and novella. This article examines the fictional heroines, torn between historiography and imagination, in Olivera Nikolova's collection of novellas Velvet Cover (Кадифената покривка, 2015), Goce Smilevski's novel Heloiza: The Return of Words (Враќањeto на зборовите, 2015) and Sašo Dimoski's novel Alma Mahler (Алма Малер, 2014). The authors listed here are mainly interested in alternative stories, focusing on real historical themes that have been pushed into the background by official history.
