- Authors
Werner, Ray O.; Nicholas, Nick L.
- Abstract
The article presents U.S. legal cases and developments in marketing relative to the regulation of product characteristics. In reference to product quality and safety standards the Charles E. Tokar v. Crestwood Imports, Inc. and Subaru of America, Inc. and the General Motors Corp. v. Robert Abrams, Attorney General of the State of New York cases are cited. The former case concerns the legality of manufacturer's warranties. Reference to credit terms and conditions of sale is also discussed. The U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) amended the "cooling-off period" policy for door-to-door sales in 1988. The FTC stated that a "notice of a right to cancel" or "notice of cancellation" must be furnished to consumers at the time of sale.
