- Title
SOME BASIC FACTS FROM THE CENSUS OF HOUSING.
- Authors
Richmond, K. C.
- Abstract
The article discusses data obtained from the 1940 U.S. Census of Housing. The study was the most comprehensive study of housing to date. The Census also detailed how dwelling units in each state, county, and city were heated. Nationally over 45% of all dwellings were heated by stoves. According to the report less than 3 dwellings out of 100 were ten rooms or more in size. The New England states had the largest homes. Several charts are presented detailing the average and median values of U.S. houses, type of structure by state, and the number of owner-occupied dwellings.
