- Abstract
The goal of this article is to define some basics of ergometry, indicating especially the expectations that you can have when measurements are doin the context of scientific research. A description of the characteristics of an ergometeris do by specifying what are the impacts on the measurement of biomechanical variables. Measurement error and its quantification are presented including a statistical point of view. Finally, an analysis of the differences can be observed depending on the conditions under which measurements are made (i.e. field conditions and laboratory) is presented and interpreted. The first part of this chapter deals of ergometry, while the second partis more specifically focused on the cycloergometry widely used for the evaluation of potential physical athletesor sedentary subjects.
