DNA testing man's best friend–what is it, why do it and what do the results mean?
- Authors
Mellersh, Cathryn
- Abstract
The article discusses the principles of DNA testing of inherited traits of dogs. It mentions the completion of the $30 million genome sequencing project in dog that was funded by the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) in the U.S. in December 2004. It also mentions that a clear DNA test is not an assurance that a dog will not develop a disease that is being tested for, however, it can be important in preventing and controlling inherited diseases.
