- Abstract
The article discusses the importance of ecosystem services in the U.S. environmental law and policy and in private markets. Topic discussed include framework of ecosystem services, different programs such as payments for ecosystem services (PES), regulatory programs and public land management programs run by the U.S. government to operate ecosystem services, and decision of several courts such as those of the U.S. Supreme Court in the case Palazzolo v. Rhode Island and of the New Jersey Supreme Court in the case Borough of Harvey Cedars v. Karan.
