- Authors
Sanders, Amy Kristin
- Abstract
The article discusses the fiftieth anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court's (USSC's) ruling in the 1964 defamation case New York Times Co. v. Sullivan, focusing on the efforts to protect uninhibited, robust, and wide-open debates about public issues in America. A matter of public concern standard and U.S. privacy laws are addressed, along with freedom of expression rights and the USSC's actual malice legal standard which has apparently been extended from public officials to public figures.
