- Abstract
The article cites findings of a study that assessed the non-response bias in the 1985 Welsh Heart Health Survey. The Welsh Heart Health Survey was undertaken as the first of a series of surveys that are aimed to monitor levels of risk factors for heart disease and associated health behaviours in the population of Wales. The 1985 survey was based on a random sample of 20850 addresses selected from the electoral register. Of the households contacted, 93.5% completed an interview giving basic demographic details about all residents. It was revealed that non-responders of the interviews, who were in the manual social groups, were significantly associated with smoking behaviour. These non-responders, however, differed from the responders in their drinking habits.
