- Title
Working with drug users to prevent the spread of HIV: the application of an analytical framework to a range of programmes.
- Authors
Jones, L. D.
- Abstract
The article presents information on a variety of programmes designed to prevent the spread of HIV infections. It is reported that the rate of HIV infection amongst intravenous drug users is rising. Maintenance programmes and detoxification programmes are among the main areas for consideration. Detoxification is argued to be helpful in reducing the likelihood of transmission of HIV and immunosuppression. Health education is an area in which there is wide agreement on the importance of the intervention and considerable differences in practice.
