- Abstract
Armenia is home to a diverse range of wild pear species, with 12 of the 32 species being endemic to the country. These pear species are threatened and categorized as critically endangered or endangered on the IUCN Red List. In an effort to conserve these species, small test groups of saplings were planted in their natural range in 2022, and a larger plantation was planned based on the results. In 2023, 360 saplings of the endangered pear species were planted in the wild, and seeds were also stored in a seed bank and added to a living plant collection. This project, the first plant conservation translocation in Armenia, was carried out by the Armenian Society of Biologists and the Institute of Botany, with support from Fondation Franklinia.
