Warriors, Prophets, Peacemakers, and Disciples: A Call to Action in the Face of Religious-Inspired Violence.
- Authors
Weintraub, Melissa
- Abstract
The article discusses ways of using a Jewish religious perspective to bring moderation to solving of political problems within Israel, offering an action plan with four points. The author calls for becoming exegetical warriors, using interpretations of the Torah to justify political positions and neutralize those of religious fanatics. She calls for becoming prophets in the Hebrew Biblical sense, standing up to injustice such as the Jewish religious harrassment of Arab schoolchildren. She calls for becoming guardians of peace, talking to people of all points of view and separating sin from sinners, genuinely hoping to learn from each other. Finally she calls for becoming disciples, or advocates for a point of view, but within the framework of the other three values.
