- Abstract
The early 2011 Jasmine Revolution in Tunisia has been the first successful regime change of what became a series of widespread social upheaval and protests against the authoritarian and repressive regimes. After the protests in Tunisia were successful, the protesters in Egypt, Libya, and other countries in the Middle East and North Africa were further encouraged by the turn of events in Tunisia. After the first elections held, the victorious Ennahda Party claimed that they were inspired by Turkey as a model. Whether it is because of its relatively well developed economy and tourism, its homogenous society, or the previously existing state order, Tunisia may be one of the countries with the greatest chance to succeed in the transition from authoritarianism to democracy. For this purpose, it is important to shortly look at Tunisia's developments for the period since its independence in from independence to today.
