- Abstract
The article focuses on the interest of the U.S. government in preserving employer-sponsored health plans for retirees. It provides information on the goals of different initiatives of the government, enacted during the period 1980-2010, including the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1985 (COBRA), the Retiree Benefits Bankruptcy Protection Act of 1988 (RBBPA), and the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 (ACA). It discusses the limitations of federal subsidies.
