- Abstract
Objective: to identify nurses' attitudes about the importance of families in the care process in the context of intensive care. Method: this is a quantitative, descriptive and transversal study, with 43 nurses from two public health institutions. Families' Importance in Nursing Care - Nurses Attitudes (IFCE-AE) scale was used, consisting of 26 items and a total score of 104 points, in which the nurses' attitudes were categorized into three dimensions: Family: dialogue partner and coping resource; Family: resource in nursing care; and Family: burden. Results: the total mean of the IFCE - AE was 75.1, in which the nurses took care of the family. The averages of the second dimension Family dialogue and coping resource was 34.4; and 30.0 and 10.06 in the Family resource dimensions in nursing care and Family Burden, respectively. Conclusion: The overall mean of the IFCE-AE found in the research suggested that nurses assume caregiving attitudes toward the family.
