The author conveys his concerns on the trade-off between the cost of an intervention and the additional benefits associated with the intervention in the universal health coverage. Topics covered include depiction of the relationship between cost and effectiveness as a cost-effectiveness plane, the true acquisition costs of new pharmaceuticals, and the use of quality-adjusted life-years to compare clinical benefits of interventions across disease states.
