The Role of Maintenance of Certification Programs in Governance and Professionalism.
- Authors
Teirstein, Paul S.; Topol, Eric J.
- Abstract
The article discusses the role of maintenance of certification (MOC) programs in governance and professionalism within the medical field. The authors critique claims by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) that its continuous MOC program was evidence-based. It is suggested that the role of written testing in MOC programs should be critically evaluated. Details on continuing medical education (CME) are also presented.
