- Abstract
The article presents a study on the use of laparoscopic and open repair for elderly patients suffering from perforated peptic ulcer disease (PPU). For the study, researchers enrolled elderly patients who underwent laparoscopic or open surgery of PPU from January 2005 to June 2010. They found 123 patients older than 70 years of age were subjected to emergency surgery for PPU. They concluded that laparoscopic repair of perforated peptic ulcers is safe and effective for older people.
