- Abstract
Objective: To verify possible associations between anthropometric factors (BMI and foot type) and performance in motor tasks of balance. Methods: 284 schoolchildren participated in the study, with 8 years of age (55.6% male) enrolled in public schools of São José/SC. To evaluate balance, the specific tasks of the MABC-2 and KTK motor batteries were used; the base of plantar support was evaluated by means of a pedigraph (PODO tech) and the body mass index (weight/height²). For statistical analysis, the SPSS statistical program was used, and a descriptive and inferential statistic was performed. Results: We verified that boys presented 2.09 times more chances of difficulty in the tasks of MABC-2 balance. In the task walking on the crossbar the boys and schoolchildren above the weight presented 1.72 and 1.94 more chance, respectively, of imbalance when compared to children with normal weight. In relation to the task monopedal jump, overweight students presented 1.94 times more chance of difficulty on task. Conclusion: The data indicate that nutritional status and sex are associated with difficulty in balance tasks, possibly being more influential on performance in these tasks, than the morphological characteristics of the foot, even if they present differences in task performance.
