- Abstract
Remembering Latvian women scientists, we can not ignore a true patriot of Latvia and Poland Vladislavovna Mary Szymanski. Convicted during the German occupation of World War II, she experienced the horrors of the Stutthof death camp, managed to survive and achieve its objective - to obtain a higher pharmacological education. Maria Szymanski name inscribed in the history of Latvia's chemistry. It - one of the organizers and founders of the Institute of Organic Synthesis, Latvian Academy of Sciences. Was Deputy Director for Science and the founder of Organic Catalysis Research in Latvia. Throughout his life was devoted to pharmacology and the Polish community in Latvia. From 1978 to 1994 was chairman of the Mary Shimanska Latvian pharmaceutical company, one of the founding chairman and the Union of Poles in Latvia.
