Guiding the professional practice of the Australian studio music teacher.
- Authors
Watson, Amanda
- Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to consider the professional practice of a studio music teacher from an Australian perspective and to describe the development of non-regulatory professional practice guidelines. The background stems from a current interest and ongoing debate in developing guidelines for studio music teacher practice; the two broad aspects associated with this topic concerning accreditation of qualifications and an understanding of appropriate pedagogy. The paper content focuses on the roles and responsibilities that studio music teachers have in both the private studio and school setting and describes the reasons for establishing private studios, and the need for teachers to demonstrate skills other than those associated with the teaching of an instrument or musicianship.
