- Authors
Timmons, Stuart
- Abstract
The article presents a portrait of Bruz Fletcher, a saloon singer popular in the 1930s for his "gay wit" but who has slipped into obscurity. 2006 marks the centennial of Fletcher's birth; the author discusses his "tragicomic life" which was ended by his own hand in 1941. Fletcher, the author notes, attracted legions of fans, not only among fellow gays, but also sophisticates including Humphrey Bogart, Howard Hughes and Ronald Regan who saw him perform in Hollywood, California clubs throughout the 1930s.
