The article offers excerpts from press releases, news media reports, and a website concerning human rights abuse in the United Arab Emirates. Amnesty International released a statement on December 5, 2005 reporting its concern for 26 men arrested while allegedly planning a gay wedding. U.S. House Representatives Barney Frank, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Tom Lantos, Sue W. Kelly, James A Leach, Gary L. Ackerman, Christopher Shays and Carolyn B. Maloney condemned anti-gay actions in a letter to UAE ambassador Al Asri Al Dhahri. Gay.com U.K. reported on February 9, 2006 that UAE banned "Brokeback Mountain."
