- Abstract
Graph In 1977, Dr. George A. Beller published as senior author a manuscript that reported the phenomenon of thallium-201 myocardial redistribution in ischemic myocardium.[1] On serial imaging after a single injection of thallium-201, stress-induced myocardial perfusion defects normalized over time, while areas of myocardial scar did not change. After moving to the University of Virginia, Dr. Beller began a research collaboration with Denny Watson, PhD, to explore the mechanisms underlying thallium-201 redistribution. Dr. Beller and his colleagues were the first to combine submaximal exercise testing early (7-10 days) after uncomplicated acute infarction with quantitative thallium-201 myocardial perfusion imaging (1983).
