Complete revascularization for acute coronary syndrome, one step at a time.
- Authors
Tsai, Tsung-Ying; Serruys, Patrick W
- Abstract
The article discusses the topic of complete revascularization for acute coronary syndrome (ACS) patients without cardiogenic shock. It mentions the COMPLETE trial and other reports that have supported the use of complete revascularization. The BIOVASC trial, recently published in The Lancet, addresses the timing of revascularization and compares immediate complete revascularization to staged complete revascularization. The trial found that immediate revascularization was non-inferior to staged revascularization for the primary endpoint at 1 year, but was superior at 30 days. The article also discusses the importance of coronary physiology and intravascular imaging in guiding treatment decisions and the potential benefits of pharmacological treatments for ACS patients.
