- Abstract
The article discusses venture capitalists who invested in U.S. industrial corporations during the Industrial Revolution and the remainder of the 19th century. It examines the financial investments of individuals in business enterprises such as the Boston Manufacturing Company (BMC) established by U.S. merchant Francis Cabot Lowell, the Patent Arms Manufacturing Company established by U.S. inventor Samuel Colt, and the Standard Oil company established by financier John D. Rockefeller.
