- Authors
Bricklin, Julia
- Abstract
The article discusses the corrupt practices of the T. Brigham Bishop & Co. brokerage, owned by Thomas Brigham Bishop and opened around 1880 in New York City. The author notes that the brokerage catered to women and considers it as a "bucket shop," or an unregulated stock market outlet. She particularly focuses on the lawsuits brought against Bishop by his former client Julia E. Hetsch, commenting on his escape to Ocala, Florida after his business collapsed and Hetsch's use of private detectives to find him. The involvement of Bishop's wife, actress Sarah Bishop, is also considered.
