- Title
ABORIGINAL INDIAN RELIGIONS.
- Authors
STEWART, OMER C.
- Abstract
The article presents a reprint of the article "Aboriginal Indian Religions" by Omer C. Stewart, which first appeared in the "Delphian Quarterly." It discusses some of the similarities and differences found in the religious beliefs and practices of Native Americans. A widespread belief in spirits, and a tendency to keep religion separate from ethics, are noted. Shamanistic practices are said to be present in many Native American cultures, but not all, and the Aztec enthusiasm for ritualistic cannibalism is described as aberrant.
