- Title
A PREHISTORIC POPULATION CENTER IN THE SOUTHWEST.
- Authors
LEH, LEONARD L.
- Abstract
The article presents information on a desolate plateau region in Colorado that was once one of the most densely populated areas in North America north of Mexico. The settlements were abandoned before white settlers came to the United States and they display characteristics that indicate that a uniform culture thrived there for multiple time periods. Evidence shows they observed similar customs and followed the same pattern of life. The site the author is most concerned with actually lies in Utah and exhibits the qualities of a fully developed Pueblo society. This site also appears to be the last phase of occupation in the area. The author attempts to determine how many people occupied the site by examining the number of kivas that have been revealed.
