A literary criticism of the novel "The Marrow of Tradition" by U.S. author Charles W. Chesnutt is presented. The author discusses the Wilmington Race Riot in Wilmington, North Carolina in 1898 as a source for the book, as well as the themes of lynching, social groups, race relations, and justice.
