- Title
KUMINA.
- Abstract
This article presents information about the Kumina movement in Jamaica. The movement was a result of some Jamaicans trying to reestablish ties with their African homeland. Jamaicans of African heritage are mostly the result of the change from slavery to indentured servants in 1839. When Jamaica was anticipating the end of slavery, they instituted indentured servitude and imported many from Asia and central Africa. To cope with the sudden change in the environment and social surroundings, the Africans maintained beliefs and practices from their homeland.
