- Authors
SINCLAIR, ROBERT
- Abstract
The article explores the notions forwarded by American philosopher W. V. Quine regarding pragmatism and empiricism. It considers his scholarly response to the writings of German-born American philosopher Rudolf Carnap, known for his writings on logical empiricism, or logical positivism. The influence of C. I. Lewis, philosophy professor at Harvard University, upon the beliefs of Quine, is considered. Other topics explored include the analytic-synthetic distinction, epistemology, and the development of American pragmatism in the twentieth century.
