A literary criticism of the book "Desert Solitaire" by Edward Abbey is presented. The tension between mysticism and materialism in "Desert Solitaire" is examined as well as their synthesis to ecomysticism. Also discussed are the role of ecomysticism in solving inherent tension in Abbey's nonfiction boks and in creating a motivating factor for its ecocentric ethos.
