- Abstract
The article discusses endometriosis which can cause infertility in most of the women. It occurs when estrogen-sensitive endometrial cells manage to attach and survive in a foreign, inflammatory environment. It has been studied that the steroid receptor coactivator 1 (SRC-1) can be proteolytically cleaved in diseased cells by matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP9) into a shorter SRC-1 isoform also bind and inhibit procaspase-8 blocking apoptosis endometriotic cells, allowing them to survive.
