- Abstract
A study is presented which interviewed students from Sunnyside High School (SHS) in rural Washington who participated in the school's Intervention Program. The program was designed to help promote academic achievement in at-risk students by encouraging them to bond with teachers, plan for the future, and participate in school assignments and athletics. The effect of gang behavior, socioeconomic status, and lack of hope on students' academic success is described. Educational innovation, students' resilience, and trust in adolescents is discussed. Some SHS students were from migrant agricultural families, and the school's graduation rate is mentioned.
