Helping Overcome Trauma.
- Authors

- Abstract
The article discusses the elements in the process of trauma recovery among youth. Trauma recovery involves transcending spiritual woundedness, having the courage to face and acknowledge the truth and is marked by the courage to trust again. The effects of trauma can roll on unchecked like a spirit of death. Traumas of childhood neglect include being left to care for oneself and handle the complexities of living; being dependent on adults who are unable to offer support or encouragement due to their own perpetual crises; and being confused over knowing who is responsible for what or who is in charge of dealing with problems. Those of us subjected to trauma develop a fortified distrust of people, yet yearn for human contact. Recovery seems to facilitate our reaffiliation with others.
