- Title
Sensing nutrient levels in bacteria.
- Authors
Ferenci, Thomas
- Abstract
The article presents the author's comments on studies related to monitoring nutritional sufficiency in optimizing bacterial survival strategies. He refers to research papers by A. Fredriksson and R.B. Weart, which show how carbon starvation is monitored at the level of ribosome function and how the pool size of a particular metabolite allows the control of cell division. He observes that it is not obvious why an enzyme involved in glucolipid synthesis is recruited to sense metabolic activity.
