- Abstract
This article analyzes the role of aboriginal people in risk assessment of orphaned/abandoned mines in Canada. It discusses the efforts of leaders of aboriginal communities to understand the issues of orphaned/abandoned mines. It also expresses concerns over dangers posed by orphaned/abandoned mines to aboriginal people since they continue to access food and furs from the land. In addition, offers suggestions for government agencies to address the issues, including the development of legislation and a policy to understand the use of the land.
