- Abstract
A study conducted in Korea found that weight gain after the age of 35 is associated with an increased risk of breast cancer, particularly in postmenopausal women. The risk is higher in women with abdominal obesity and high daily calorie intake. The study suggests that excess adipose tissue can lead to hormonal imbalances and increased inflammation, which can contribute to DNA damage and breast cancer development. However, the study acknowledges limitations such as self-reported weight and the lack of information on menopausal status at the time of diagnosis. The findings emphasize the importance of weight management in mid-adulthood for breast cancer prevention.
