- Abstract
This article discusses a case of prenatal ultrasound diagnosis of idiopathic infantile arterial calcification (IIAC), a rare autosomal recessive disease. IIAC is characterized by the deposition of hydroxyapatite crystals in the arteries, rupture of elastic fibers, and fibrous hyperplasia. The case study involved a 28-year-old pregnant woman at 28 weeks of gestation, whose fetal echocardiography revealed a dilated heart and thickening of the atrial and ventricular walls. The diagnosis was confirmed through X-ray examination and microscopy after induction of labor. The article emphasizes the rarity of prenatal diagnosis of IIAC and highlights the importance of considering this disease when echocardiography shows increased echo in the fetal large artery wall.
