- Abstract
This article discusses a study on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on surgical rates in different population groups in Ontario, Canada. The study found that surgery rates decreased significantly for all subgroups during the pandemic, but by 2023, most subgroups had returned to pre-pandemic levels except for immigrants and recent migrants who continued to have lower rates. The findings suggest a need for policy interventions to ensure equitable access to surgery for marginalized populations during the pandemic recovery. Further research is needed to understand the causes of disparities in surgical access and develop policies to address them.
