- Abstract
This article presents information regarding Center to Advance the Teaching of Technology and Science (CATTS). A recent discussion on ITEA's IdeaGarden centered on the need for a "national curriculum." The value-added is the fact that students who go through this model achieve higher on state and national assessments and are better prepared for a changing technological workforce, much easier said than done, but an imperative if one is to be accountable for his content and survive in today's data-driven schools. The good news is that once a standards-based program is put in place, student assessment can be used to inform instruction and determine if students are in fact leaving the program technologically literate. The bonus is that a standards-based program assessment can show that students are technologically literate, that they achieve higher in mathematics, science, English, and social studies, and hence, are value-added. Standards-based program development is about a comprehensive process to develop what actually will be taught in classrooms.
