The article presents a study on the Springthorpe waxworks exhibitions in Scotland, the North of England and Ireland in the 19th-century. The author suggests that although waxworks are generally "static" exhibitions, there is more than a little of the theatrical about them. He traces the earliest advertisements at the exhibitions that appeared in 1828. Also mentioned are Springthorpe's visits and long runs for several years at the Bell Street Hall.
