This article recalls the author's meeting with poet Allen Ginsberg. Reading "Howl" made her feel a connection with the larger world of poetry in the mid-1950s. The author wrote in to Allen Ginsberg at City Lights Books and months later the poet showed up on her doorstep with his lover Peter Orlovsky and the writer Jack Kerouac.
