- Title
THE GENESIS AND EVOLUTION OF JOSEPH CONRAD'S `YOUTH': A REVISED AND COPY-EDITED TYPESCRIPT PAGE.
- Authors
Sullivan II, Ernest W.
- Abstract
The article presents a discussion related to the book "Youth," written by Joseph Conrad. The discovery in the William Blackwood & Sons Ltd., publishing archives at the National Library of Scotland of a typescript page of the book containing at least two layers of holograph revision and a copy-editor's markings brings to light new evidence about the composition, revision, and publication of the story. The first state of the typescript differs so markedly in length and detail from the holograph that the existence of still another state of the text between these two seems certain.
