JULIET'S NURSE: SOME BRANCHES OF A FAMILY TREE.
- Authors
Rees, Joan
- Abstract
The article presents information on Juliet's nurse, in the various adaptations of "Romeo and Juliet." Juliet's nurse is a character in Arthur Brooke's poem "The Tragicall Historye of Romeus and Juliet," which is the major source of William Shakespeare's tragedy, and Brooke tells us that she is a `prating noorse' given to `make a tedious long discoorse'; but it is Sidney who makes a tedious discourse entertaining and perhaps showed Shakespeare the way.
